Hashtag limits by platform
Instagram allows 30 hashtags per post and 5 in a story; posts with more are published without the caption. TikTok caps the caption at 4,000 characters, which fits far more than you should use. LinkedIn recommends 3 to 5 and limits at 30 in practice. YouTube ignores all hashtags if there are more than 60. Facebook and Pinterest have no hard limit but engagement falls after 3 to 5.
Mistakes the checker catches
Duplicate hashtags waste slots and look careless. Hashtags longer than 30 characters are rarely searched. Numbers-only hashtags (#2026) are not clickable on Instagram. Hashtags with punctuation break at the symbol, so #don't becomes #don. The cleaned list removes the duplicates and flags the rest.
How many to actually use
Instagram's own guidance is 3 to 5; most creators see the best results with 5 to 15 relevant tags. Use the Hashtag Generator to build a balanced set and this counter to keep it within limits.
