How to use

  1. 1 Paste or type your caption, post or bio.
  2. 2 Read the live counts: characters, words, sentences, hashtags, mentions, emojis.
  3. 3 Check the platform bars: green fits, amber is close to the limit, red is over.
  4. 4 Trim until every platform you post to is green.

Social media character limits in 2026

X allows 280 characters (4,000 for Premium). Instagram captions allow 2,200 but show only the first 125 before 'more'. Instagram bios allow 150. TikTok captions allow 4,000, LinkedIn posts 3,000 (210 shown before 'see more'), Threads 500, YouTube titles 100 (about 60 visible in search) and descriptions 5,000. This counter checks all of them at once so you can write one text and reuse it.

Why emojis and line breaks count differently

Most platforms count an emoji as one or two characters, and some count a flag emoji as four. Line breaks count as one character each. This tool counts Unicode code points the way Instagram and X do, so the number matches what the app shows.

The visible limit matters more than the hard limit

The hook has to land before the cut-off: 125 characters on Instagram, 210 on LinkedIn, 60 on a YouTube title. Write the first sentence to fit inside that window, then expand below it.

Questions

Does X count links as 23 characters?

Yes. Every link counts as 23 characters regardless of length. This counter shows the raw length; subtract the difference for links.

Is the Instagram caption limit 2,200 characters?

Yes, including hashtags and line breaks.

How is read time calculated?

Words divided by 200 words per minute.

Does it store my text?

No. Nothing leaves your browser.

Why does my emoji count as 2?

Some emojis are two code points joined together. Platforms count them the same way.
