YouTube banner size explained

YouTube asks for a 2560x1440 image, but it crops it differently on every device. TVs show the full image, desktops show a 2560x423 strip, and phones show only the central 1546x423 safe area. Anything important (logo, name, schedule) must sit inside that central box. This tool draws the safe area over your image so you can position it correctly.

YouTube thumbnail size

Thumbnails should be 1280x720 pixels (16:9), under 2 MB, in JPG, PNG or WebP. Keep text large (readable at 120 pixels wide) and keep the bottom-right corner free because the video duration badge covers it.

Why the file size limit matters

YouTube rejects banners over 6 MB and thumbnails over 2 MB. Exporting as JPG at 90 percent quality keeps most images well under the limit without visible loss. Use PNG only for flat graphics with text.
