How to Bold and Italicize Text on LinkedIn Posts (2026 Guide)
LinkedIn has no bold button for posts. Here is how to add bold and italic text, bullets and spacing that paste correctly, plus when formatting helps and when it hurts.

The short answer
LinkedIn posts have no formatting toolbar, but you can use Unicode bold and italic characters, which look like formatted text and paste anywhere. Select a phrase in the LinkedIn Post Formatter, tap Bold, then copy the post into LinkedIn.
How it works
Unicode includes full alphabets of mathematical bold and italic letters: 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱 and 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤. They are separate characters, not styling, so LinkedIn displays them exactly as written. The same trick works in comments, your About section and your headline.
Formatting that improves reading
- One idea per line. Phones show about 6-8 words per line; long paragraphs look like walls of text.
- A blank line between ideas. The formatter’s “Space out” button does this automatically.
- Bullets, checks or arrows for lists. • ✅ → make steps scannable.
- Bold for one key phrase, like a list heading or the core takeaway.
The 210-character rule
LinkedIn shows roughly the first 210 characters before “…see more”. That opening must make people want the rest. The formatter’s preview shows the cut live, and the Post Preview tool shows it for every other platform too.
When formatting hurts
- Search: LinkedIn does not read Unicode bold as normal letters. Keep keywords in plain text.
- Accessibility: screen readers may read bold Unicode letter by letter. Use it sparingly.
- Overuse: whole bold paragraphs look like shouting and lower trust.
