How YouTube ad earnings are calculated

Advertisers pay a CPM (cost per 1,000 ad impressions). YouTube keeps 45 percent and pays the creator 55 percent. Not every view shows an ad, so the creator's real rate per 1,000 views (RPM) is usually 40 to 60 percent of the CPM. Formula: earnings = views x monetised rate x CPM x 0.55 / 1000. This calculator applies exactly that.

CPM by niche and country

Finance, software, business and insurance videos often see CPMs of 15 to 50 dollars because advertisers compete for those viewers. Gaming, entertainment and vlogs usually sit between 1 and 5 dollars. Audience country matters just as much: US, UK, Canada and Australia viewers bring the highest rates, while most of Asia and Africa bring under 1 dollar. The presets in this tool reflect public creator reports and are estimates, not guarantees.

Ways to earn beyond ads

Most full-time creators make more from sponsorships, affiliate links, memberships, merchandise and digital products than from AdSense. Use this calculator as a baseline, then add a sponsorship rate of roughly 20 to 50 dollars per 1,000 views for integrated deals.
