Meta ad image specs in 2026
Feed ads work best at 1080x1350 (4:5) or 1080x1080 (1:1), Stories and Reels at 1080x1920 (9:16), link ads and the right column at 1200x628 (1.91:1). Files must be JPG or PNG under 30 MB, and at least 600 pixels on the short side; 1080 pixels or more stays sharp on modern phones.
Why aspect ratio matters more than pixels
Meta crops images that do not match a placement. A landscape image in Stories gets letterboxed, and a square image in Reels loses most of the screen. Matching the ratio per placement, or uploading separate assets, usually lowers cost per result.
The 20% text rule
Meta removed the hard 20% text limit, but images with less text still tend to get more delivery for the same budget. Keep headlines short and inside the centre so they survive cropping.
